how much download useage does wow use?

hey all, haven't got WoW yet, but i'm wondering how many megabytes of download useage Wow uses while running to load the chat data, other peoples characters, and everything else.

Very little bandwidth while playing, but huge amounts for downloading patches. Most articles seem to point at Warcraft using 5-10MB per hour.

Bear in mind that the current patch (4.0.1) on the background downloader is sitting at over 5Gb - I expect that to increase again before the patch is released onto live servers.|||ok, thanks for that, so do the patches automatically download or do you choose to download them, and how often do you need to download patches?|||Patches downoad automatically (you HAVE to be running the most up to date client to play). You get a huge patch every expansion and maybe 4-5 large content patches every year. You'll also get plenty of smaller hotfixing patches.

It should be noted that for Cataclysm we're getting two major patches: 4.0.1 which is currently on the PTRs and background downloader contains the overhaul to the classes, talent system and statistics, and one other patch (I think it's currently called 4.0.3) which will have the overhaul to the terrain.

I expect both of them to blow up the servers.|||Not to mention blowing up most PC's running the game too....

I've got all of 4.0.1 finished but I might sctually skip playing the dy it comes out... addons will be incompatible as well, just like with 2.0 and 3.0....|||I don't know about the PTR NOT containing the terrain... I mean. That's a LOT of data just for abilities and gearstat-changes...

I suspect Blizz to have pushed 90% of cata into 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 will be small. Perhaps some zone-tweaks and the numbers-pass which is still left to be done on the beta...

Then they'll use phasing to transform the world around us dynamically before our very eyes !!|||Worth considering is that, while the patches are huge, you can choose when to download them as long as it is before patch day. The 4.0.1 patch would of eatten up a large chunk of my monthly allowance if I hadn't been able to turn the background downloader on and off to take advantage of the unlimited hours my ISP gives me in the early mornings.
