Hello everyone!

Hi, I'm using my WoW free trial right now but I plan on becoming a full player within the next few weeks when I get around to it. The games fun but there is still so much more for me to learn and do!

I was just wondering what I could maybe do to find some people to level/hang out with? I need some social interaction, and I don't get much right now. I really would like this when I officailly start up playing soon, don't care what server. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with playing with a troll, just thought it was fun. ^^

Oh, and another thing. Can horde characters access alliance cities? People say that horde and alliance are two different gaming styles, but I don't know what they mean. I'm open to any character really right now, so maybe knowing what this means would be good to start off on the right foot?

Thanks|||Quote:

1. Pick your character and server, play nice with others, be helpful, and keep a somewhat cynical eye on your official forum for your server. (The official forums can be somewhat harsh and negative, take them with a grain of salt and you'll find some nice people on them) Eventually you'll fall into a guild...words to describe what you're looking for...laid back, relaxed, fun, leveling, social guild. Remember, the trial accounts are purposefully restrictive in the level of access they allow to other players...this prevents gold sellers from making hundreds of free accounts and spamming players. It does however leave real new players at a certain disadvantage.

2. The Horde and Alliance are at war. While it's currently a rather cold and stagnant war, this means you cannot access the other faction's cities. Going there will get you attacked and killed. There are, however, neutral cities when you progress in content that will bring you side by side with the other faction's players (Shattrath, Dalaran, The tournament grounds) And remember...that while NPCs have the miraculous ability to speak the other faction's language, you as a player do not.

3. Honestly, as a player fairly experienced with both factions, I see no difference between them in "play styles" or really anything else concrete. It's simply a matter of which visuals or lore story arc you prefer.|||There really isn't any difference between Alliance and Horde, other than aesthetics. Do you think Orcs look sexier/cooler/spiffier/prettier than Humans or vice-versa? Race is about 90-95% aesthetics, and class is the big difference maker.

As for what race/class combo you choose, that's entirely up to you. We can't tell you what to play. The best class is, and forever shall be the <not my class> class. You have to think about what it is you want to do. Do you want to heal? Tank? Deal damage at range? Deal damage up close? Ask yourself these questions and go from there.|||in terms of finding a guild, that will have to wait untill you get the full version of the game, since trial accounts can't join guilds. once you get the full version, head to your race's capital city (for trolls that's Orgrammar). once there you will have access to the trade channel which is a chat channel that links to all the cities of your faction. this is where most guilds advertise. it might take you a while to find a guild you stick with, but be persistant and patient.|||Thanks for the replies, I'm really thankful! But I'm still lost in all this.

There is so much to take in from this game, its very overwhelming. I still can't choose what race/class (I know race doesn't really matter, so mainly class) to be... And that's mostly because I don't want to mess up. What if I put a talent point into a bad talent? Can talents be reset? I still don't understand what exactly a 'raid' is, but it sounds cool. I guess I just want to know more of whats out there, because I want to make sure my character is right when I can do it. I don't want to realize it's not right for me 30 levels in (maybe that's not a lot of levels for you guys?). I've really only touched the Hunter, Shaman, and Warlock classes. But I still don't know whats right for me.

I don't even know if that above stuff even makes sense. I just thought I'd put the ongoing rant inside my head down on the forum and see what it brings. I have so many questions left unanswered, because even the 'intro' stuff seems to pro for me. You have a big thanks for me for replying, actually, just for reading all of this.

EDIT: By the way, semiiramiis, you live in Wisconsin? Epicness!|||Quote:

There is no permanent mistake in this game. You can reset your talent points, as many times as you can afford. (It goes up each time you do it, until you don't do it for a certain amount of time, then it starts to go back down.)

Raids are game content specifically created for end capped level characters to complete together. The big bosses in the game require a group to successfully complete....so bring friends.

There's no way to know what you'll find best. I was very lucky to stupidly fall into the class for me as my first rolled character, but most people have a few false starts. Usually by level 20 or so, you've gotten a really good idea of whether or not this class is for you. (My four paladins never made it farther than level 13)

We all start as new players. We all had our moments of running into the living room, to wail "I died! What do I do now?!?" at a grinning spouse. Or dying because we...got caught in a corner. Didn't realize that hey...that town is full of elves. I've never seen elves before.... is a BAD thing, when they're alliance elves and you're a horde cow. I've fallen to my death so many times. Discovered that it's possible to throw a non pvp enabled toon into pvp mode... Spent three hours in an instance that I never made it out of the second room of...

Race is, actually, a very important factor. If I was to ask you, off the top of your head, which one is the coolest looking...you'd answer....? (personal coolness factor is very important. If you don't like how it looks, you won't want to play it...and it'll never click)

Yup. I'm currently living in lovely SW Wisconsin. :)|||Thanks for the fast post.

Judging from what you said, I think I'll stick with my Gnome-Warlock for a while... Warlock has attracted my interest the most so far. And I can't think of which other class would be more interesting at this point, so, onward! I guess I don't have to worry about raiding for quite a while then, huh?

Well this is just great... Destro, Demo, or Affli? Decisions decisions decisions...|||Quote:

Just play the game. Just enjoy the game. Play what you want, how you want. You'll run into lots of people who will question your every single decision, but if you want to play a gnome warlock, then by all means. Don't listen to the gnome haters of the game (yes, that includes me) and go for it.

Raiding is not really anything you should be concerned about at this point. Having fun, leveling,meeting new folks, learning your class and the game should be your main goals.|||Uh oh...another one from Wisconsin...

Suggestion, in addition to the advice Semii is giving you, it helps to read up on your class and ho it's builds work, it's role when solo and when in a party.

Wowwiki.com is a good site to look things up as well as this one. Wowhead.com is another one.

You can look up your class for example, http://www.wowwiki.com/Warlock you can find heaps of info on Warlocks and many topics that have to do with them. Warlocks are the Kings of DOT's (damage over time spells) and they have minions. they an create health stones, soul stones and such.

I admit WoW is a learning curve big time, but you're in the right place to ask questions.

BTW, I'm from south Chicago.|||Quote:

here's a breakdown of the talent trees for the warlock:

Destro - basically plays like a mage who deal shadow damage. lots of powerful, high cast time spells.

demo - concentrates on your minion, allowing it to do more damage and survive more.

affli - king of the DoTs. able to put multiple DoTs on multiple targets for more damage.

when I first started, I found it easier to look at the individual talents than at the whole talent tree. look along the first row of all the talent trees and see which talent will benefit you the most. once you get more experienced you'll be able to pick a whole talent tree based on your play-style.
