About PvP...

As you may have guessed, I'm a newb and I'm gonna be getting WoW soon. However, I'm struggeling to diside what type of Realm/Server to play on. I figure I might as well go for PvP but I have a question about it.

On PvP Servers/Realms can other players come up to you and attack you randomly? Or do you have to select some sort of option to fight them?

I don't wanna be 5 minutes into the game and some level 50 comes up and owns me.|||Quote:

1. After a certain level and once you leave the protected starting zones, yes, other players from the opposing faction can attack you at will on a PVP server. PVE <normal> servers are the ones that allow you the option of being attacked or not.|||Quote:

The contested (non protected) zones start at about 20th level. (Not entirely certain, I'm pve based) but yes....it's pretty low....esp when the end cap is level 80.|||Quote:

Ouch :O So, for a newb like myself, would you recoment a PvE server? Just since I don't have a total understanding of the game beyond the basic facts. xD|||Quote:

Personally, at least in the beginning, I would suggest a new player who is not completely committed to pvp to beginning roll on a pve server. (I think they've made it to where, at a later date, you can pay to transfer your pve character to a pvp server if you decide at a later date that pve servers are too tame for you...if I'm incorrect, someone else will come along and correct me later)|||Quote:

No problem, and enjoy the game!|||I agree. Start on a PvE server. If you think you'll like PvP, try it out by starting early; you can start playing 10-vs-10 PvP around lvl 15.

I'm not sure if you can transfer from PvE to PvP server.|||You can transfer from a Normal (PvE) server to a PvP one. Just bear in mind that it will cost you real life money.

My advice too is to start on a PvE server, unless you're absolutely sure you want to play PvP. On a PvP server you will be ganked, and corpse camped by higher level toons. Many folks find this far more exciting and interesting than just running around perfectly safe from the opposite faction.

Also check out the server forums on the official Blizzard forums. If you do decide to roll on a PvP server you want to make sure you don't roll on one where your faction is horribly under-represented.
