Starting to play wow again.. need help with patch

Hi,

I want to start to play wow again. i have a lvl 20 warlock on runetotem i guesse, but i installed the game (classic wow) on mpy new computer i just got recently but after i installed it, i had to instal and download another file of 3.4 gb and im currently downloading at 50kb/s ... :/ Is this TBC patch or just a patch that comes with classic wow? i would apreciate any help guys:)

Grtz|||It's probably every single patch from whatever version classic WoW was when it was first released, all the way to most recent one: 3.3.3a.

If the Blizzard downloader is being slow, I'd recommend finding a good mirror.

Fileplanet has a nice all-in-one package which will get you all of the major patches, but not the most recent mini patches, but getting the mini-patches off of the Blizzard downloader isn't that much of a hassle.|||Hmmmm...I have a level 20 something warlock on Runetotem US. :) But yeah, if you're patching up from vanilla, you've got a ways to go.|||Quote:

Stupid Question Inc!

Do I have to reinstall Vanilla WoW onto my computer and then install the patches from Fileplanet? I assume you still need to D/L Vanilla WoW.

Where is my dunce cap? I need it right now.|||Quote:

Yes. You'll need to reinstall classic and then install the patches.|||Alternatively, you can always reduce the amount of patches you have to download by buying everything up to and including the most recent X-Pack (WotLK), although if you're just trying the game out for the first time, I don't recommend that in case you don't like it.|||Is any body on?

1:52 pm eastern|||If download speeds are being terrible with the blizzard downloader (which is often the case) and you don't want to go through the hassle or manually downloading the patches from a mirror, normally you can increase the speed of the downloader by going to the options and turning off peer-to-peer transfer.

This effectively changes it from a torrent to a normal download, which is generally more efficient.|||Quote:

Maaaaaybe. Why?

(But seriously, this website is strongly populated by EU players, you'll find them on at what are normal times for *them* and not so normal times for *you*. I have a mediocre chance of being on at the given time, depending on my work schedule on that day.)

help me pick pro's on my realm

ok i have 1 of each class all horde ill give the list of the toons and what class they are i just want a few suggestions on what pro's i should have for each one remember its on the same realm

Tauren-Warrior-

Orc-Warlock-

Orc-Rogue-

Troll-Priest-

Tauren-Shaman-

Tauren-Druid-

ty for your time it is appreciated|||Just curious - why a mage with leatherworking ?|||Maybe he wanted to make enchanted leathers and wasn't sure how to go about it?|||becuase my friend told me that skinning/leatherworking is the eziest to lvl and get money with but i will b using the rest of the toons equally so they can send me things for the mage and there is some stuff i can use from leatherworking with the mage i just would like op on the

other classes i dont know which is good with what yet i just started 4 months ago also but i play like 12 hrs a day after work|||Fair enough.

There's not really any definitive "best of per class" profession. Your plate users (DK, Pala, Warrior) will gain benefit from blacksmithing, your cloth wearers (Priest, Warlock, Mage) from tailoring and your leather/mail wearers (Druid, Rogue, Hunter, Shaman) from leatherworking.

You'll also want to probably combine your manufacturing professions with your gathering professions :-

Leatherworking -> Skinning

Blacksmithing -> Mining

Engineering -> Mining

Inscription -> Herbalism

Alchemy -> Herbalism

Tailoring and Enchanting don't need a gathering profession.

Of course, you don't need to combine your professions this way - if you already have one toon with Herbalism, then they can send herbs to your scribe or alchemist.|||There are two schools of thought here in this forum, but here's what I think. If your characters are all relatively low level, say 40 or less, then the gathering professions make good sense. Even doubling up and having two Herbalists or two Skinners or Miners makes good sense. Gather like mad, sell the gathered materials on the AH or in Trade chat and make yourself some gold for mounts, equipment and the like.

Then, once you've levelled up to at least 40 (50 might be even better) drop one gathering profession per character and take up a crafting one, one that will make use of what that character can gather. You can then craft things that will sell or that your other alts can use or wear.

I've done the professions thing both ways: started at a low level with both crafting and gathering; gone for gathering all the way to a higher level. I have to say that levelling a higher-level character in a crafting profession is far faster and easier because of the access he has to gathered stuff. I levelled a level 80 Death Knight to 465 in Engineering in about two months and that was just picking away at it when I had some spare time.

Don't forget the secondaries: First Aid (really a useful skill that saves on potions), Fishing (fish sell well and can be cooked to provide food which also sells well) and Cooking (you can make a lot of gold selling cooked items and they're useful for your own characters as well).|||all toons are brand new even the mage which is just lvl 12 atm just started yesterday for horde but the reason y i asked cuz there are 2 class's that have bonuses for doing things like taruen with herb and Blood elf with enchant so that is y i asked also i never thought of having 1 toon with 2 gathering skills just didnt faze me i was just doing a gathering and crafting together then when the craft was maxed do either enchant or tailoring instead of gathering|||Racial bonuses for skills simply aren't that big a deal. Tauren get a slight advantage in that they are able to pick earthroot right off the bat, but the downside of this is that they also need to get 15 extra points before they "max" a skill and get their Lifeblood (small heal over time). This means that everyone else gets their first level of Lifeblood at 75 skill, but Tauren need to reach 90 to get their first level of Lifeblood. So they have their downsides as well. Choose skills based on what you want to do, not on racials.

My orc rogue is an enchanter and herbalist -- you obviously don't need herbalism for enchanting, but enchanting is very expensive and herbalism is still a great money maker.

I would definitely drop leatherworking on the mage. A lot of the best stuff you can make for that is BoP (bind on pickup, meaning you can't trade it to anyone) and as a cloth-wearing mage you won't be able to use it.

And...

Don't take this the wrong way, but ... dude, that post above is one sentence. A lot of people aren't even going to bother to read a wall o'text. Granted, in your case, it's just a knee wall, but punctuation is very helpful and you're much more likely to get positive response if you divide your words up with punctuation and paragraphs. Caps are helpful too. People don't want to have to work that hard to read a post, so a lot of people will likely ignore it. Make it easy for people to read, and people will.

...Ren|||Renata, thats very outdated information. There havent been bop items at high end since TBC and the profession specific "perks" are equal for everyone. In Leatherworking's case it's special bracer enchants, which do include a spellpower one, in addition to stamina and attack power ones. Similarly all the other crafting professions have something for everyone and are just as good regardless of class or spec.|||I stand by my statement that leatherworking is one of the least useful professions for a mage. At least with tailoring, he could make other things for himself that he can use, particularly leveling up. I'd no more take leatherworking on a cloth wearer for a couple of bracer enchants than I'd take enchanting simply for the ring enchants. My rogue is an enchanter for a number of reasons, and a couple enchants are among the least of it.

How to heal during a dungeon ?

Im new to WoW . Ive been playing a little less than a week and just did my first dungeon . I was the healer but I dont kno how to heal every one . Could someone please help ?!|||Going to need a bit more information than this. What class are you? What level (guessing around level 15)?

For starters, you can select different people in your party by clicking on their portraits. If you then cast the spell you use to heal them, it'll cast on them.|||Select party member. Cast a heal on them.

It's not rocket science.|||Quote:

Need to know level and class to give accurate information, however:

Quick and dirty overview of healing. Hots (heal over time) goes on your tank (the guy staring down the main mob) before he goes out there to get it. When he goes, wait a second for him to get its attention, then start healing him...usually little heals to keep him going. If he does his job well, (probably not going to happen at the level we think you are) then he's the only one you will need to heal. Remember big heals take more time than little heals, if you start a big one, you better believe you've got the time to complete it or your target is down. Eventually you'll have abilities to heal more than one person at a time, which makes the job easier.

When this doesn't work and more than tank is taking damage: Tank and healer get first heals, dps gets healed after them. (Remember, your healer is your rezzer as well, if you die, it's not happy) Keep an eye on your mana, and always carry a goodly amount of mana potions to keep yourself topped off. If you are healer, that is your single job. You can toss an occasional offensive spell if you feel really comfortable, but as a new healer, I don't suggest it. You stay in the middle of the group, not in the front, occasionally in the back. Make certain every party member has all the good stuff your class offers...blessings, prayers, totems, buffs... and check this often. Remember to always have tons of the items you need to give your party these... nothing screams noob like... "Oh, guys... I didn't buy my candles, thorns, etc..." when you're in the instance.

No, it's not rocket science...but it does take practice and thought.

Duel Spec Damage Low

Hi there! My toon is a level 66 human Warrior and I am not the most educated player trust me...I do a lot of reading.

However I finally took the plunge and purchased the duel spec for DPS. My talents are 7/51/0. Of course I just had to get the titans grip.

What I noticed right away was when I equipped my second sword my damage immediately went down to red. If I take it back off...the stats go back up. They are the both type of two handed swords and both are enchanted with Mongoose. So I'm not sure exactly is going on...could someone help me?

What do I need to do to bring up my damage again?

Thanks

Ariesofdeath|||What are your talents for the other spec?|||Thanks for asking...my other specs are 3/0/55 all protection for tanking...|||Well, the talent reads:

"While you have a two-handed weapon equipped in one hand, your physical damage done is reduced by 10%"

Could that be what you're seeing?|||Did you actually look at the talents you had brought or just seen a build on the net and copied it? Titans grip reduces all damage done by 10% when there is a 2h-wep in the offhand slot, or you use a 2hand wep with a shield/one hander.

That said, the damage increase from having another twohander outstrips the 10% loss, so you are gaining damage, it just doesn't seem like it if you look at your stats.|||Great! Thanks everyone what you have said does make sense to me. And yes I read and read and spent alot of gold trying new things out on my talent tree to find one that suits my playing style. This one I found is new to me. I found the specs off of the armory.

I tried out the specs last night and I suppose I am so used to being a tank that its a little odd. LOL...I guess I'm not used to things running from me...

After you all mentioned it I looked at it again and yes your right about the 10% and thank you for answering my puzzling questions....

I can't interact in the game.

I am totally new at playing WOW and only began a day ago. My character is a night elf currently level 4. However today I appear to be losing connection. I can't communicate with guards or the CPU's . Everything is freezing.I can't purchase items from the shop keepers because they don't exist. I can't attack enemies (and they can't attack me), I can't get experience and I can't do quests. I can move around but all the characters controlled by other players have vanished.I can see the night elf guards and Protectors but I can't interact. I have no idea what has happened. Can anybody help or explain what has happened ? I'd really appreciate it.|||Assuming you're using a legal copy of the game, it sounds to me like you're having lag/rubber band/internet issues more than a game issue. I'd be curious to know what kind of internet you're trying to play with?|||My internet is DSL and my browser is firefox...I checked out what you were saying and I think I am experiencing lag (although that has NEVER happened to me in any other situation). My dad however says it sometimes happens when he is playing an online game ink link. I might try and defrag the computer and see if that helps.I really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot.|||Quote:

Defragging won't help that much. It's more an issue of your ISP not allocating you the bandwidth that you need or there being interference on the line etc.

Turning off/on the router/modem and trying to let it reconnect can sometimes help a bit.

But in the end only the isp can really effect things. Either that or shop around for a new one.

Also make sure that you're on a realm which is beneficial to your location. That would be the Oceanic servers, which are located on the West Coast of the US, as opposed to the East Coast ones. Farther away the target server is, the bigger the problem can get.|||one more thing that could be a problem is if you are running on the trial client and not the full game. if you are using the trial client it has to stream all the information which makes things run slower. I found I had to wait a couple of minutes when entering a new place before I could talk to NPCs, etc.

if this is the case then installing the full game client will solve most of your problems.|||It can also be your RAM or your video card. What are you running for a system?

...Ren|||Also, how much total RAM do you have and are you running anything in the background when WoW is running?

New Character Advice Please........

Hello,

I want to create a new character to compliment my excisting toons.

I have a:

Gnome-Warlock (Mining and Blacksmithing)

Night Elf-Druid (Alchemy and Herbalism)

Human-Paladin (Blacksmithing and Mining)

As I'm fairly new I would much appreciate any help with Class/Race and Proffesion of my next character to make.

Thank you|||What do you want to play? What playstyle do you favour? Tanking? Healing? Ranged DPS? Melee DPS? Do you want a pet class, or non-pet class?|||Draenei

Profit|||Go Rogue.

Engineering/Skinning

Use your other toons mining to fuel Engineering and Skinning will provide some leathers you'll need. An NE would be good as a Rogue.|||Quote:

Not only leathers, but the skinning bonus (Master of Anatomy) gives crit bonuses, which is pure yum with a rogue. My mage is a skinner/tailor for the same reason.

Returning after 1.5 year hiatus.. Got Questions..

1) I quit in 2008, shortly before WoLK came out. I just got WoLK yesterday and resubscribed. My lvl 70 has not completed a few high level Outland quests (particularly some elite quests.) Are there any of those quests worth doing before I head to Northrend?

2) I mostly enjoy the PvP aspect of the game esp the BGs.. I hear that twinks are basically dead now. How are the lvl 80 BGs these days? How well does Gear Matching work in practice? Still, I'd much rather play against a comparably equipped group of lvl 80s than stick with the Twink BGs where I don't have access to my character's full range of abilities.

3) Some miscellaneous features.. any of these implemented yet?

- Auctionable enchants

- Group duels

- PvE to PvP transfers

4) Lastly, what do you think of this Feral Druid build for lvl 80?

http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc...00000000000000|||Welcome back :)

1 : If you want to do these quests for sentimental value or for "special" rewards, then do it. YOu will get better rewards, more XP and more people to quest with in Northrend though. I abandoned all quests i had the moment i loaded wotlk :)

2 : I dont do pvp, sorry. Twinks arent dead though, you even have a option to stop XP gain. You will be mathced against other twinks though. There are lvl 60 and lvl 70 twinks decked out in the raid items for these levels. I dont know about gear matching, is this even used ?

3 : you can enchant scrolls now and put these in the AH. Group duels = arena ? Pve to pvp transfers are possible by now.

4 : the druid is about the only clas si have never played. Sorry :) But ask in our druid forum.|||1. Generally, no, they are not worth the time. If you really want to do them, find a guild or something and hope they want to help, lol.

2. Yes. Twinks are essentially dead. Sure, you can have great gear on your x9's... Thing is, when you turn off the exp, you are officially considered a special bracket of your own. No more twink VS regulars anymore.

3. A. Yes. On the AH just go "Scroll of enchant" and it'll have EVERY enchant just about. B. Group duels no, but Arena's still doing well I'd say. C. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that everyone can transfer to any server they want.

4. Immediately noticed you didn't have Primal Gore. Bleeds are a gigantic amount of DPS now, and since you have 35% or higher crit at 80 in blues and greens, I would say it's extremely worth it to get that... Other than that, go check on google for good builds at 80.|||I'm guessing because you said PvP that you'll be going cat form which means you don't need the point in intensity, or the 3 points in nature's focus. max out shredding attacks, primal gore and improved mangle instead and you'll be fine.|||Let me just add to the question about Twinks: I tried to make one about 2 months ago; I made a lv19 holy paladin and gave him semi-decent equipment, then blocked xp gain. I tried 3 evenings in a row, but couldn't get into a game for 1.5 hours, after which I gave up.

Other players have told me that there are a few realms where twinks are still present, but they are really too rare to be enjoyable.

Something else- in Cataclysm there should be a major overhaul of BGs (including ratings). I never bothered looking up details but you may want to.|||Quote:

1) Same reply here.. I did the same thing and came back in after a long break. I went from 70-80 using a crappy wow leveling guide that skipped all the non phat quests/diversions. I tried picking through the leftover quests but my memory of what I did/didn't was horrible due to my quick skim of the content. Everyone I've asked says "do it if you're really bored only".

2) Twinks seem dead to me. I still see the gear at stupid prices but that's about it?

3) Yes! This is one of the things that got me back into the game. I lost a lot of my RL guildmates to RL stuff like kids and such. Buying enchants off the AH is so cool!

Group PvP happens all the time, on PvP servers.. :)

Don't know for sure both others seem to have you covered on this one! :)

Either way, welcome back! (Good timing with Cataclysm on the way!)
