Gear, gear and more gear

Ok been playing wow for a few months now and at level 63 I have some outland gear and some dungeon gear. My question is what is the overall goal that I am trying to reach. gear wise? It seems super confusing the end game gear and it also seems that the options are unlimited.

I am requesting help deciphering gear in wow from this gracious forum board. I see bg gear, pve gear, and arena gear, then multiple tiers for said gear. Also I hear about bind on equip, bind on pickup, bind on account, does this have any bearing on the quality of the gear?

Im a rogue and I intend to pvp and grind. Will I need two armor weapon sets? I'd love some help if it is available.

Thanks you.|||I think this is mostly correct - others may feel free to correct me.

BG gear - earned through honor and/or marks (though marks are pretty much only Wintergrasp (WG) now, and you're not high enough level for that yet. Tends to be mostly PVP oriented, though I will admit that I did PVE in it for months (it was easier to do that at the time rather than dungeons).

PVE gear - earned generally through regular questing, killing, and dungeons, but also through other currencies (Seals, Emblems). Seals are earned through questing (Argent Tournament - you're not there yet); Emblems are earned through killing high level bosses (again, you're not there yet). The seals and emblem gear tend to be better but take a while to grind. Not as good for PVP.

Arena gear - PVP at the top, more or less (from what I understand - I don't do arenas). Earned through Arena points and arena rating. Some gear only costs arena points and honor, and arena points can now be earned through the random battleground feature.

Tiers - dungeon sets; generally obtainable through running multiple dungeons, multiple times. Tends to be top of the line stuff; specifically oriented by class.

BoP - from what I've seen, tends to be fairly good PVE gear. Generally only obtained through dungeons (bosses) and/or emblems (some emblem gear is BoE though). Arena gear and PVP gear are also generally BoP.

BoE - generally a little less good gear, but still can be just as good. Mostly PVE.

BoA - pretty nice actually for leveling up alts and such; you won't be able to get the BoA stuff until you hit late 70s-80 - it requires emblems or seals for the most part.

The crafting professions usually have a semi-decent set of PVP gear at the high end as well that is BoE.

Some people say you should have separate sets; I didn't, and I did both (though my PVP was restricted to WG for the most part). At your level right now, your options are a bit more limited, but there's plenty of good quest gear in Outland, and once you hit 67-68, the quest gear in Northrend is even better.

I wouldn't worry too much until end game really. Once you get there, that's where it will probably matter more, unless you start doing arena. In that case, you'll have to earn honor and arena points/rating to get geared up the way you want.|||SO if i want the best pve gear I should do high end dungeons and farm them every time I hit a new level, and if I want great pvp gear for bg and world pvp i should use honor and farm bg. This will yield the best gear fro pve and pvp?|||Continue to level to 80.

Things will vary based on your spec, for example an assassination/mutilate Rogue will have daggers while a Combat Rogue might have swords.

Until 80, use the best you can get from instances, gear up from Northrend instances (when and after 70) and then from Heroics. Don't forget to take advantage of items from ToC and then Heroics and ToC heroic and ICc 5 man instances.

Once you're 80, you should be in mostly purples, then it's a mix of Heroic 5 mans for any upgrade you might need and emblem collection.

You should run VoA (level 80) asap in both 10 man and 25 man versions, you have a chance to get your t9 and t10 gloves and pants from there as well as other things.

If you intend to raid, then eventually you will need to start running TOTC 10/25 for gear upgrades that will prepare you gear wise for raiding ICC, which is where the rest of your T10 Raid set drops from.

If you plan on going PvP and less raid, then you will get two of your PVP T10 set (wrathful) from VoA 25 and the rest from running arena battles.

As to bindings: there are some bind on equip items that you can buy from the Auction house...Wodin's Lucky Necklace for example but they will cost you a chunk of gold. Do your homework ahead of time and decide what you really need to by and what might be a waste of several thousand gold due to an upgrade in that slot shrtly down the road.

BoP items, those you need, and will get from Raids (and pre 80 from Heroics too.), BoA are usually Herloom items bought by your main and hand me downed to other toons still leveling. For example some items bought with Stone Keeper's Shards, like the Upgraded Dwarven Hand Cannon.

Not only is your gear a concern, but also your choise of enchants and gems on that gear. There's a quest chain starting in K3 that eventually unlocks The Sons of Hodir as a faction you can rep with...do it.

It's advisable (post level 70, and at 80 for sure) to use a DPS spreadsheet... not to mention using sites like WoW-heroes (level 70req.) that sort of audit your gear, tell you your weak points, and give suggestions for improvement and even suggest instances for you to run by difficulty based on your gear level, and then other sites like Be.imba.hu (level 80) further audit your 80 and point out misenchanted things or impoperly enchanted stuff, low level items, and point out content for you that is optimal. Word of note: The armory does not do this, all it does is suggest possible upgrades for a slot but not much more.

You should also read into (wowwiki.com/rogue) level 80 builds and see what you want to do down the road....

Edit: Problem, you can't even attempt high end dungeons unless you have the gearlevel to survive, even then you're going to nee your guild to get in the first few times because most pugs might not want you, as you have no experience in there yet...no furthest achievement, sort of like having no credit and trying to get credit.|||Yea i read a lot, just gets confusing with all the different upgrades. Any game I played in the past wasn't like this with constant gear grind. I'm just trying to get everything under way before I'm max level scratching my head saying wtf.|||Post armory link...|||Is that safe to put my account info into? Not quite sure about how the armory works|||It's the official site, so yeah.

Go to wowarmory.com and search your character there, then link it here for some help gearwise.|||ok will do from home. ty|||Armory links are not your account information...they are this:

Erasmis

Or basically, what you see when you look at your character, or when you are inspected by passersby.

As for the question, the basic rule of thumb is: You get the best gear for what you want to do by doing it.... ie... the best pve gear comes from raiding, the best arena gear comes from arena points...etc. There are a few notable exceptions, such as the long and lovely (yes...place as much sarcasm as you see fit here) time I spent in the bgs for a battlemaster trinket for the Rage fight in Mt. Hyjal.
