Complete Newcomer - some idiotic questions.

Hey,

I'm a complete - complete newcomer to WoW, never even done any research on it before. Anyway, I want to get into it so I downloaded the trial of the original game - the only confusing thing is when I load up the game it says World Of Warcraft Cataclysm and not just World Of Warcraft. When I upgrade into to a full account, I don't want to have to buy all the expansions just to play on the account I made, I only want to have to buy the original game.

I'm probabbly sounding like a right idiot now, but it says World Of Warcraft Cataclysm on the splash screen and loading page and stuff, does that mean it is Cataclysm?

I'm able to create a new character and enjoy the game, but I'm not sure whether I'm playing the original or Cataclysm. Everything says 'World of Warcraft: Cataclysm' so I'm confused.

Thanks|||Yes, you're going to need the core game (Classic WoW) plus all of the expansions between Classic and Cataclysm (TBC and WOTLK)

Cataclysm in itself is not a game, it's an expansion ad to play it's content you will need all of the others.

Of course, you can buy Classic ans just start with that and then get TBC at level 60 and WOTLK at level 70.

Read this: http://wow.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426765|||The thing to understand is that everyone, no matter what expansions they have, is playing the same game. Everyone is on patch 4.0.3a, and the game client is exactly the same for everyone.

Which expansions you have just control which of the content you have access too. It's all on your computer, you are just locked out of the non-original content if you don't have expansions.|||It says "World of Warcraft: Cataclysm" for everyone, whether they have the expansions or not.

This is a quick rundown of what every expansion adds to the game.
  • Original ("vanilla") WoW: Level cap of 60, only access to Azeroth without Northrend or the 80+ zones, 4 races to choose from.

  • Burning Crusade: Level cap of 70, access to Outland, Draenei and Blood Elf races unlocked.

  • Wrath of the Lich King: Level cap of 80, access to Northrend and the Death Knight class.

  • Cataclysm: Level cap of 85, access to the level 80+ zones in Azeroth, Worgen and Goblin races unlocked.

Like Cattleya said, you downloaded everything already, all the game data is on your system. For instance, you have to be able to see a Worgen if one is passing by, even though you can't make one yourself yet. But the expansion you have decides what you have access to.

So, to answer your question, it says "Cataclysm" for everyone.|||how to downgrade from version 4.0.3. to 3.5.5.

Why? Is your reason something you want to keep PRIVATE? ;)|||no :) i like that version

can you help me?|||Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, downgrading to a certain patch involves using a private server, which we don't condone here. We are a legit forum and don't support anything that goes against Blizzard's ToS.|||Quote:

Most of the time private servers dont work anyways...

and you cant really "downgrade" anyways. Its pretty much: "Delete everything, now download every patch ever made and install them individually."

So have fun.
